Lighted Christmas Parade Activities in the Alley

Central Church will be serving hot cocoa and hot apple cider from The Alley Tiki Hut before and during the parade. 

Muse singers will be caroling in The Alley beginning at 4:30pm. 

Post 34 Auxiliary Soup Supper

Join Post 34 and the Auxiliary as we enjoy Oskaloosa's Lighted Christmas Parade. 

The Auxiliary will be hosting a soup supper in the banquet room from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Several soup choices with all you can eat for $8 per person. 

Then head outside at 7:00pm to watch the Honor Guard present the colors at the start of the parade followed by the Veterans Trolley with our veterans and their families. 

Grab a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy the parade with for a free will donation.

Join us for the 36th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade.  This year's theme will be "Heart of Christmas".  You've seen the Painting with Lights in Oskaloosa, come check out the creativity of the parade entries with all the colors and lights. 

The weeklong festivities will include the Young Ambassador Contest, Window Decorating, Home Decorating contests, Gospel Christmas Concert, Merry Little Downtown Christmas and more. We welcome the community to invite family, friends and visitors to make a trip to Oskaloosa.

As you visit the town, you can always get hot cocoa, apple cider or that warm Christmas cup of coffee at the local coffee shop; visit the Alley, decorated for the holiday; visit the quaint little bookstore for a Christmas read; or shop unique shops along the square for that perfect Christmas gift. Come see the lights, grab your cameras, and come celebrate Christmas in Oskaloosa.

You can build your own creation or assist with the group project. The group will construct a giant sun and other celestial bodies (moon, stars, planets).

We'll light our lantern puppets and stroll them through the streets to celebrate the Solstice and welcome the return of the sun.

Solstice Celebration and Lantern Parade

Wednesday, December 20th • 5:30 PM • Participants: Meet at 5:15 PM in Penn Central Mall Center Court with your lantern (bundle up!) (All ages are welcome, but those in 3rd grade and under must be accompanied by an adult to assist them.) We'll light our lantern puppets and stroll them through the streets to celebrate the Solstice and welcome the return of the sun. The short parade around the Square will end at the bandstand where we will invite the community to join us for some music. All are welcome to walk in the parade, even if you didn't build a lantern. Lantern puppets are better known around the world as luminarias ("light" in Spanish) or farolitos. They are a traditional Christmas decoration in the American Southwest, particularly in New Mexico.

3rd Annual Community Christmas Caroling

Spread the cheer of the Holiday season. Community members will gather in Center Court and sing the songs of the season.

Every month we travel to Smokey Row on the third Thursday to bring a fun painting event to the Oskaloosa area! 

For the month of December, we'll be painting a beautiful wreath with YOUR initial in the center. This would make a beautiful Christmas gift for a loved one or just beautiful decor for your home. 

Each ticket is $30.
