Homeschool Science Lab "Greed vs. Need"

The program on this day will be geared towards kids ages 8 years and older. 

The Mahaska County Conservation Board invites homeschool and online school families to the monthly Homeschool Science Lab on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm at the Mahaska County Environmental Learning Center.

The topic for March is titled "Greed vs. Need". Our activity will have a good lesson for kids to distinguish the difference between greed and need and how our choices affect the environment. Popcorn will be used to help make the program fun and tasty!

This program is free, but registration is needed by February 28th to participate.

Every month we travel to Smokey Row on the third Thursday to bring a fun painting event to the Oskaloosa area! Please join That Paint & Pottery Place for March's’s on the 21st. 
For the month of March we’ll be painting this beautiful barn right on the verge of spring… this piece definitely gives that Iowa burgeoning spring vibe for the season. Pair this with a hot cozy drink and you’ve got a perfect evening.

Each ticket is just 30$ a piece and the event starts at 6 pm. There are 2 ways to register/pay:
1. Venmo 30$ to That Paint & Pottery Place instructor: @Dora-Olson-2
2. Register at Smokey Row by filling out the sign up sheet and paying at the register with 30$ cash or check made out to That Paint & Pottery Place. (They have a special drop box just for payment for the paint classes behind the counter)

No walk-in appointments are available. All appointments must be made by calling 641-672-1169 and leaving a message.

United Way of Mahaska County will act as a hybrid or in-person or drop-off appointment site location. 

 In-person appointments will be available during the week and on Saturdays. Drop-off appointments can also be made during the week or on Saturdays.

Drop-off appointments allow you to drop off your tax materials with our VITA volunteers and pick them up at a later date when they are completed. 

This is a 100% free, no strings attached program. All volunteers are certified through the IRS.
